What stays on your device
Marginlight saves your books, thoughts, and reading sessions in this browser’s local storage. The app does not send library contents to a server. There are no accounts, advertising SDKs, or analytics SDKs. The hosting provider receives ordinary web requests and may process connection metadata such as an IP address under its own policies.
Keep a copy
In the native iPhone app, your library is saved in the app’s local documents instead of browser storage. The native app also has no accounts, advertising, or analytics SDKs and does not transmit your library to our server. Your device’s operating system may include app documents in its backups, according to your device settings. Native and browser libraries are separate; use export and import to move a copy between them.
Clearing site data, changing browsers, or using temporary browsing can remove your library. Use Settings → Export library to download a JSON backup. Store it somewhere safe. Import merges books, thoughts and completed sessions by ID, keeping the newer matching record and preserving unrelated entries. Active timers do not move between devices. There is no automatic synchronization.
A quiet place to begin
Add a book from My shelf. Open it to start a reading session or keep a thought immediately. Pause the timer when you put your book down; the clock continues across reloads until you pause or finish. Finish & reflect saves a session and offers space for a thought. You can close that prompt if nothing needs writing down.
Find what stays
My thoughts lets you search reflections and quotations or filter by book. Edit a book to update its current page. Mark it finished whenever you are ready. Sample books and original example reflections are clearly labeled and excluded from personal totals.
Sharing and quotations
Share creates an image or copies text only when you choose. Long thoughts use an excerpt on the image; text copying keeps the full thought. Mark quotations as quotations, credit their book and author, and share only excerpts you have permission to share. Marginlight does not automatically publish anything.
If saving fails
A message will explain that a change was not saved. Export a backup before clearing site data. If saved data cannot be read, it is preserved and a recovery export is available in Settings. Reset only after saving a copy; resetting cannot be undone.
